3 Things We Learned from #OIGA2015

Etix and Rockhouse Partners were proud to be a part of the 2015 Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association’s Annual Conference last week, where we met both new and old friends and learned about the latest in casino trends. Here are our top takeaways:

1. Millennials Matter

Marketing to the next generation is the key to success. The Millennial generation, currently ages 18-34, have a combined spending power of $1.3 trillion, but they don’t make up a large part of casino patrons. A great way casinos can target this younger (and profitable) audience is through content. Developing entertainment packages that include artists that appeal to a younger demographic (country, pop, etc.) is good start in getting Millennials through the door and on the floor.

2. Great TV Ratings Means Better Ticket Sales

Chances are if it did well on television, it will do well in your casino’s venue. Today’s top-performing shows are all being taken from the small screen straight to the stage: Dancing with the StarsThe Price is Right, Cesar Millan, etc. We can’t stress it enough: programming is essential.

3. Optimize your most profitable marketing channels

To sell more tickets, you have to reach reach the right audience via the right platform. In our panel “If You Book It, Will They Come? An Entertainment Director’s Dilemma” our own Zack Wright discussed strategies to fill seats by targeting the right audience. If prospective customers aren’t actively using television or radio to find events, neither should you. Your focus should still be on the channels that you know drive revenue (website, email, online ads, etc.)
